Loaning Adnan Januzaj To Dortmund Might Have Been A Mistake, Admits Manchester United Boss Louis van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal loaned out winger Adnan Januzaj to Dortmund this summer and he regrets it. He openly admits that it was a mistake in allowing the move.

The 20-year-old left Old Trafford on deadline day in September in a decision that bewildered most supporters due to the fact that they had seen the likes of Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie also leave.

With Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney currently unavailable, the Red Devils had to play Memphis Depay in an unfamiliar striker role during yesterday’s win against Watford.

And, with Januzaj yet to start a league match for the Bundesliga giants, Van Gaal admits his decision to let the winger leave isn’t working out at the moment.

‘I said in advance that it’s a big risk, because you have to compete with other players of a high level and that’s not easy,’ said Van Gaal.

‘At a club like Borussia Dortmund, all the players are also of a certain level.

‘It’s the same as at Manchester United. He has to compete with higher-level players. I want him to play all the matches, and that’s why I wanted to play him in the Premier League, but he chose Borussia Dortmund.
‘We have to wait and see [if it’s a good move] because now he doesn’t play. I am certain he has the talent to play but he has to learn a lot of things.

‘Talent is important, but so is the character to develop your talent. And he can learn that.’
